Solar Power Beauty – Global Warming
The truly beautiful thing about solar is that there are no carbon emissions.
Carbon Released
When carbon is released into the atmosphere it binds with oxygen and makes carbon dioxide and this contributes to the greenhouse effect or global warming.
How?
When the sun shines on the earth it reflects off the surface. The atmosphere can let the rays out or trap them in. Carbon dioxide has the effect of trapping sun rays. These added sun rays, that otherwise would have escaped the earth, are what heats up the earth.
Today, there are parts of the earth that used to have glaciers, and are now nonexistent. Last year a chunk of ice the size or Rhode Island broke off the polar ice cap.
Evidence is mounting, but it is a slow process. That is why some people don’t believe in global warming. However, it is important to note that scientists from around the world believe it is a very real threat that should be dealt with.
Effects
Like any great effect, change takes a long time. Little effects build up over many years. At some point, there will be a tipping point or the point of no return. It will be a point where we can’t just go back and undo.
Scientists propose counter intuitively that the earth will get very cold and we will experience another ice age. How will that happen? As the polar ice caps melt, the ocean water temperature will drop. This will drop the temperature of the entire earth and will allow for much larger and colder storms around the world. Some scientists believe this could usher in another ice age.
So, if you think that carbon emissions don’t matter; think again. Solar panels will help reduce global warming by reducing carbon emissions since most of our power is generated by coal. If we would completely switch to solar, as a world, the effect would be huge.
