Photovoltaic
You can expect to pay around $1000.00 for a photovoltaic panel that puts out 200 watts or 8 amps or 26 volts. You will, on average, need 2000 watts (at least) for the entire home. This means that you will, on average, spend around 10k for an average 2400 square foot home. On top of that you have installation costs that will be around 40% more. You should install yourself; if possible.
Thermal
Thermal costs vary wildly depending on your configuration. The least expensive way is to use black polyethylene tubing. When you upgrade to copper and dual layer glass the cost will go up significantly.
Polyethylene tubing is very inexpensive. You can buy a 100 feet roll for under $40.00.
Water Barrels are very inexpensive. You can get old oil drums for free. To purchase drums, they can be less than $50.00.
