Many solar panels, of today, are produced using the Siemens process. What CaliSolar has done is that they can produce the solar panel at a much lower cost to proprietary silicon feedstock methods. The efficiency rates are also above 16% and that is really good.
CaliSolar is a vertically integrated company. That means that they have control over the entire manufacturing process. They also have a technique of purifying silicon without heating it up and evaporating it.
